Health Minister addresses pending Doctors’ strike

Dr. Austin Demby, Sierra Leone’s Minister of Health and Sanitation has the Ministry has engaged the doctors, assuring them that their fuel allocations will be provided.

Dissatisfied members of the Sierra Leone Medical and Dental Association (MDA) have announced announced plans to initiate a sit-down strike if the Ministry of Health does not provide their long-awaited fuel allowance.

Dr. Demby called on the doctors to prioritise compassion for the public and reconsider their strike plans.

Minister Demby noted that the government had already paid for the first two quarters of 2024, with only the third and fourth quarters remaining. He further highlighted that the annual fuel allocation for doctors stands at approximately NLe31 million and assured that efforts are underway to meet the outstanding commitments.

The minister commended the doctors for their sacrifices and expressed hope that after discussions with the Medical and Dental Association, doctors would continue serving the nation.
