The Parliament of Sierra Leone has summoned the country’s male national football team, the Leone Stars, its technical team, the National Sports Authority and others, to answer to questions relating to sports finances.
The hearings, scheduled for today, December 17 at 2:00pm, will see the Public Accounts Committee in Parliament investigating the financial management and operations of the National Sports Authority from 2020 to 2024.
The Inquiry will examine the financial management practices of the Authority, Ministry of Finance and Accountant General’s Department in relation to sports activities in the country.
Additionally, it will investigate the operational practices of travel agencies engaged in sports-related travel within the time frame.
Those summoned to appear include the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Sports, the current and former Executive Directors of the NSA, the Managing Directors of Star Travel Agency and Cinderella Travel & Tours, the Ambassador of Sports, and the Technical Team of the Leone Stars National Team, including the coaches and assistant coaches.
All parties summoned must submit relevant documents by December 17, including records of bonuses paid to Leone Stars players, list of competitions participated in by the national team (2020-2024), disbursement schedules for sports-related funds and procedures for purchasing air tickets for sports travel.
The Committee said the technical team of the Leone Stars is also required to provide details on criteria for player selection, fitness assessments conducted, training methods employed and strategies for team integration.
It further warned that failure to appear before the Committee or submit required documents could lead to further parliamentary action as deemed necessary by the Committee.
