Sierra Leone’s Minister of Gender and Children’s Affairs, Dr. Isata Mahoi is currently in New York leading her country’s delegation at the 69th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW).
She arrived in the country on March 9, 2025, to participate in the significant global forum focused on gender equality and women’s empowerment.
Dr. Mahoi brings over twenty years of experience in gender inclusion, women’s empowerment, social risk management, monitoring and evaluation, and peace and reconciliation processes. She holds an MSc in Development Economics and International Cooperation from the University of Rome and a PhD in Economic Policy from the Catholic University of Milan.
In her role as Minister, Dr. Mahoi has been instrumental in advocating for and implementing policies that promote gender equality in Sierra Leone. Notably, she played a key role in the enactment of the Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment Act in 2022, which aims to increase women’s representation in various sectors.
This legislation has led to a rise in the number of women in parliament and cabinet positions.
At the CSW, Dr. Mahoi continues to champion these initiatives, sharing Sierra Leone’s progress and engaging with global leaders to further the agenda of women’s rights and empowerment.
