The Inspector General of Police, Mr. William Fayia Sellu, has received a significant donation of electrical equipment valued at Four Hundred Thousand Leones (Le400,000) towards the completion of the Freetown East Regional Police Headquarters.
The donation, made by Fawaz Building Materials (FBM), marks a major milestone in the progress of the long-anticipated project, which had already passed through various architectural stages and was only pending electrification.
During a short ceremony held on Tuesday, IGP Selluexpressed deep appreciation for the generous support from FBM. He reflected on the humble beginnings of the project, which started years ago through self-help efforts within the Sierra Leone Police (SLP).
Recalling a recent conversation with FBM’s Chief Executive Officer, Hajj Fawaz, the Police Chief said, “He asked, ‘What can I do for you, IG?’ and I responded that it was not for me, but for the SLP.” That exchange, according to the IGP, led to the estimation of electrical equipment needs and the eventual donation now received.
Representing FBM at the handing-over ceremony was Mr. Orlando Williams, who officially presented the items to the IGP on behalf of Hajj Fawaz.
IGP Sellu praised the contribution, noting that improved infrastructure and working conditions are critical to enhancing police service delivery. He further disclosed that the new regional headquarters is expected to be among the Christmas gifts to the people of Freetown East and the SLP from President Julius Maada Bio.
“This project is not just a building; it’s a symbol of our continued commitment to strengthening the Police Force and improving public service in Sierra Leone,” the IGP added.
The completion of the Freetown East Regional Police Headquarters is anticipated to significantly boost policing capacity and community engagement in the eastern part of the capital.
