The Minister of Public Administration and Political Affairs, Amara Kallon, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Economic & Commercial Counselling Centre of the Embassy of Sierra Leone in Guangzhou, P.R. China (ECCE-G).

The agreement, coordinated by the Office of Presidential Infrastructure Initiatives (OPII), is aimed at boosting incentives for public and civil servants through housing mortgage and vehicle loan schemes.

According to officials, the initiative is part of Strategy Six of the Public Service Strategic Roadmap on Pay and Incentives, which sets a target to establish hire-purchase and housing schemes by 2030 to attract and retain skilled professionals within the public service.

The next phase will involve consultations with key ministries and agencies, including the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Lands and Country Planning, the Ministry of Transport and Aviation, the Sierra Leone Housing Corporation (SALHOC), and the National Lands Commission, to work out implementation details.

Leaders of various public service institutions have reportedly endorsed the plan, which government sources describe as a significant step towards improving conditions of service.
