The Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC) in Sierra Leone has ordered the All People’s Congress (APC)Party to convene a properly constituted disciplinary committee to deliberate on the status of Alhaji Samuel SamSumana.

The Commission warned that failure to comply with its directive could lead to penalties under the Political Parties Act, including fines of not less than NLe100,000, suspension, or even deregistration of the Party.

It cited the Political Parties Act, 2022 and the APC Constitution (2022), stressing that the Party failed to follow its own procedures before declaring Sam Sumana’s membership forfeited.

The PPRC advised the APC to summon a disciplinary committee to review the matter, noting; “If no lawful basis for his expulsion is established, he must be reinstated immediately, and if the committee recommends expulsion, then he will have the right to appeal to the Party’s final arbiter”.

Earlier, the APC leadership argued that Sam Sumana lost his membership the moment he left the APC to form his own political party.

However, on the other hand, the PPRC said the APC did not hold a disciplinary hearing to give Sam Sumana a chance to defend himself, concluding that disputes within political parties must be handled in line with their constitutions.
