The Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) has welcomed the outcome of a recent survey by the Institute for Governance Reform (IGR), which showcases significant strides in electricity access and reliability throughout Freetown.
According to the IGR findings, nearly 80% of residents acknowledged noticeable improvements in electricity supply over the past year — reflecting EDSA’s ongoing efforts to deliver stable and accessible power across Freetown.
The Survey reveals that 83% of residents in the West End have experienced better electricity supply; 77% in Central Freetown reported improved service, 71% in the East End confirmed greater electricity reliability.
Additionally, 76% of respondents expressed that electricity services have strengthened, while 12% saw no change, and another 12% noted a sharp decline.
In the face of this encouraging progress, the report also identifies perennial challenges that EDSA faces. The rising cost of electricity remains a great concern for residents of Freetown.
EDSA acknowledges these concerns and remains fully committed to addressing them through the following measures: Reducing electricity costs by improving operational efficiency, ensuring stable voltage and service reliability, and also intensifying efforts to curb power theft and illegal connections.
“We are gladdened by the positive feedback from citizens and remain dedicated to providing consistent, affordable, and transparent electricity services,” said Tesman Egbe, Acting Director General of EDSA.
EDSA extols the technical support and coordination of the Ministry of Energy in achieving this feat and assures the public of its commitment to providing energy access to citizens.
