The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) has officially unveiled its newly procured Regimental Brass Band, marking a significant step towards enhancing the image of the Force in line with the vision of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), William FayiaSellu, to transform the police from a force into a service-oriented policing institution.
The unveiling ceremony took place at the Senior Police Officers’ Mess in Kingtom and attracted senior police officers, as well as other invited guests.
Delivering the keynote address, IGP William Fayia Selludescribed the unveiling as another historic milestone in the development of the Sierra Leone Police, noting that the SLP Brass Band remains a pride of the nation. He stated that the decision to procure a new brass band was a bold one, particularly at a time when the institution has several other pressing projects to undertake.
The IGP expressed hope that the instruments would be handled with care and a strong sense of responsibility, stressing that collective effort is required to move the SLP forward. He encouraged personnel to seize every opportunity to effect positive change wherever they find themselves.
IGP Sellu further urged band members to perform music that is pleasant, professional and uplifting, while emphasising the importance of continuous training and mentorship to build capacity within the band. He described it as a personal honour to unveil the new brass band instruments, noting that the SLP had relied on obsolete equipment for many years.
In his remarks, the Deputy Inspector General of Police, DIG Sahr Yomba Senesie, said the unveiling of the new brass band marked yet another milestone for the SLP. He reiterated that IGP Sellu’s vision is to transform the SLP into a modern, professional and well-equipped security institution, adding that the initiative forms part of the IGP’s wide-ranging reforms, with more positive developments expected.
The highlight of the event was the inspection of the newly procured instruments. The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by ACP Esther Saffa, Director of Community Relations Affairs.
