Effective today, Thursday, 22nd January 2026 the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) will commence the recruitment of 1,000 Sierra Leoneans as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the country’s defence and security capacity.
Applicants must be Sierra Leonean nationality and must possess a valid national ID card, no criminal record, police clearance, medically fit, physically fit, and must meet the required height standard.
Applicants are required to complete the Application Forms and submit them to the nearest military location with effect from Thursday, 22nd January, 2026.
Director – Defence Public Relations and Information in the RSLAF, Lieutenant Colonel, Yayah Brima said all the military locations across the country have been notified to receive the Application Forms for onward delivery to the appropriate Recruitment Centre, adding that the Application Forms must be submitted on or before and not later than 5 pm on Wednesday, 4th February, 2026.
In addition, Lieutenant Colonel Brima said applicants must attach 4 Passport Size Photos, Photostat Copy of National Identity Card, Photostat Copy of Birth Certificate, Police Clearance, Undergraduate Certificate/Statement of Result and Transcript (for Cadets only), WASSCE Certificate and Scratch Card (for Cadets only), and BECE Certificate and Scratch Card or any relevant Technical/Vocational Certificate from a recognised Institute or Apprenticeship (for Recruits only).
According to military authorities, the recruitment exercise is aimed at enhancing operational readiness, improving manpower levels, and ensuring the armed forces remain capable of responding to both internal and external security challenges.
The recruitment drive is expected to be conducted nationwide, giving eligible Sierra Leoneans from all regions the opportunity to apply. Officials say the process will be guided by transparency, fairness, and merit, in line with established military recruitment standards.

A spokesperson for the armed forces noted that the exercise will also create employment opportunities for young people while promoting national unity and discipline.
“The recruitment of new personnel is not only about increasing numbers but also about building a professional, disciplined, and capable force that reflects the diversity of the nation,” the spokesperson said.
The RSLAF further urged the public to be cautious of fraudsters, warning that recruitment into the armed forces is free of charge and that no payments should be made to individuals or groups claiming to facilitate enlistment.
