The Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs hosted a high-level meeting with a visiting Russian delegation aimed at exploring opportunities for cultural exchange and cooperation between the two countries. The delegation visited the Ministry courtesy of the Office of the Vice President and was accompanied by Member of Parliament, Hon. Sahr Emerson Lamina.
Hon. Lamina expressed appreciation for their visit and noted that the engagement provided an opportunity to explore areas of collaboration between Russia and Sierra Leone. He explained that the meeting focused on strengthening cultural ties through exchange programs, including a presentation on Russian culture and discussions on potential partnerships that could benefit both countries.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Natalia Krasvoskaia highlighted the work of the Center for Public Diplomacy in promoting cultural diplomacy and strengthening dialogue between Russia and African countries. She explained that the organisation facilitates youth and women’s dialogue initiatives, educational exchanges, and broader cultural programs across the continent. She also revealed plans to expand their presence in Africa, including the possibility of establishing a representation office in Sierra Leone to deepen cooperation in education, science, technology, and culture.
In her response, Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Nabeela Tunis welcomed the initiative and reaffirmed the Government’s openness to partnerships that support tourism and cultural development. The Permanent Secretary, Judith C. Jones, provided an overview of the Ministry’s mandate and ongoing initiatives, while Director of Tourism Travel and Exchange Program, Mohamed Jalloh, highlighted the Ministry’s work over the years and possible areas for collaboration. The meeting concluded with both sides expressing appreciation for the constructive engagement and optimism for future cooperation in the cultural and tourism sectors.
