The Sierra Leone Employers Federation (SLEF) has paid a courtesy visit to the Minister of Employment, Labour and Social Security, Hon. Umaru Napoleon Koroma, to strengthen collaboration and discuss key issues affecting employers, workers and the wider labour sector.

The meeting, held at the minister’s Office, brought together members of the SLEF executive and senior officials of the Ministry, including the Commissioner of Labour. The Commissioner called the meeting to order and provided an opportunity for the Federation to introduce its executive and outline its ongoing engagements within the tripartite labour system.

Speaking on behalf of the Federation, Vice Chairman Tamba Allieu Kokobay thanked the Minister for the opportunity to meet with him and congratulated him on his appointment. He said the Federation had, over the years, worked to increase its visibility and strengthen its role in representing employers across Sierra Leone.

He noted that SLEF works closely with the Sierra Leone Labour Congress and the Ministry as part of the tripartite framework, stressing that cooperation among employers, workers and government is essential to addressing challenges within the employment sector.

“We are here to introduce ourselves to you, for you to know that we are there and ready to work with you. You can call on us at any time,” Mr. Kokobay said, assuring the Minister of the Federation’s readiness to support the Ministry in advancing labour and employment issues.

He also highlighted developments within the Federation, including the establishment of a fully functional secretariat and increased participation in national and international labour engagements.

Responding, Minister Umaru Napoleon Koroma Esq. welcomed the Federation and expressed appreciation for its visit and its contribution to the development of Sierra Leone’s labour sector.

The Minister said his immediate priority is to work closely with employers, workers and other stakeholders to ensure effective implementation of the country’s labour laws, particularly the Employment Act.

“My intention, and I have made it very clear from day one, is to work together with you to see how we can implement the provisions of this Act,” Minister Koromastated.
