According to Unisa Sesay, the Chairman, RAIC, the right to know and access information is an important human rights necessary for the enjoyment and protection of human rights, making possible public involvement in formulating economic and social policies and in the decision-making process of governance.

Activities include enhancing public awareness and sensitization campaigns throughout the country with simultaneous activities taking place in regional offices in Bo, Kenema and Makeni. 

He explained the mandate of the Commission, which he said is charged with implementing the Right to Information Act  which was passed by Parliament in October 2014, at the height of the Ebola Virus Disease outbreak, and that they had adopted innovative approaches to maximise the resources provided Government.

He disclosed that recently, the World Bank has agreed to fund them and that they are also having some headway with Open Society Initiative for West Africa.

Mr Sesay urged all Sierra Leoneans to exercise their inalienable right to demand information as provided by the RAI law of 2013, stressing that  the doors of the Commission are always open to all citizens to get  or ask on any information on Government and private officials.
