The 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results in Sierra Leone have revealed mixed outcomes, with thousands of candidates facing withheld results over suspected examination malpractice and a high reported failure rate in English Language.

According to the key figures released, 201,124 candidates sat the examination across 1,043 schools, while results for 200,756 candidates were reportedly released by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).

However, results for 368 candidates from five private schools remain unpublished due to non-payment, while 47,454 candidates had their results withheld pending investigations into suspected examination malpractice.

In subject performance, 63.33% of candidates reportedly failed English Language, while 62.15% obtained a credit grade or better in Mathematics.

Meanwhile, Alfred Farwell Thorpe of Sierra Leone Grammar School emerged as the best-performing candidate, securing six A1s, one B3 and one C4. Silawi Alie of Camboi Lebanese Secondary School in Kenema was reported as the second-best candidate, with four A grades, two B2s and two B3s.

Awada Senior Secondary School in Bo was named the best-performing school.

The figures also indicate that 11,492 candidates, comprising 6,490 females and 5,002 males, appeared to have been absent from all subjects.

WAEC is expected to determine the status of withheld results following investigations. Candidates whose results have been withheld may still have them released, depending on the outcome of those investigations.

The reported statistics contain inconsistencies regarding the number of candidates achieving five credits or more and the overall examination figures.
