Teachers Detained for Sexual Penetration

According to the charge sheet, the victim was accompanied to the Adonkia Police Station by one Hannah Swarray who reported a case of Sexual Penetration against the accused, following which the a police medical request form was issued to the victim for examination and treatment at the Rainbow Centre in Freetown.

During the proceedings, the victim disclosed that he knew both accused persons as Teachers and they used to study her at home. She said on one particular occasion her mother caught the first accused Raymond Ezekiel Thorlley having sex with her and the matter was reported to the police but that the police never charged the matter to court.

She further disclosed that it was the first accused who started penetrating her sex organ before the second accused person and that she stopped having sex with both accused persons when she fell in love with a certain Sheika who is presently at large.

At this stage of preceedings, the presiding magistrate enquired about the endorsed police medical report form of the victim and was shock to learn that the said endorsed police medical report form made no mention of both accused persons but Sheika who is presently on the run.

She made it abundantly clear that she was deflowered by the first accused person but when her mother reported the matter to the police no proper step was taken in ensuring that the accused is charge to court. She said the Pastor of the first accused later intervened and came with a doctor who conducted some medical check-up on her sex organ.

Despite Counsels representing both accused persons applied for bail on behalf of the accused persons Magistrate Moody ordered that both alleged sex offenders be relocated to the Male Correction Centre in Freetown.

The matter was prosecuted by Sgt Joseph Peirce Turay and was adjourned to Thursday 19th October 2017.

In a related matter, one Alhaji Sesay was also remanded by Magistarte Albert Moody for the offence of Sexual Penetration of a Child Under Age Eighteen years Contrary to Section (19) of the Sexual Offences Act of 2012 of the Laws of Sierra Leone.

Detective Police Constable Sgt. Sheriff Kamara attached to the Family Support Unit (FSU) of the Congo Cross Police Division testified that he recognized both the victim and the accused in the dock.

He recalled 12th May 2017 whiles on duty at the Division, a case of an alleged sexual penetration of a child was reported by one Moriba Jusu on behalf of the victim and that the case file was assigned to him for further investigation.

The witness testified further that in his presence Detective Police Constable Henry James issued police medical request to the victim for the same examination and treatment at the Rainbow Centre in Freetown and statement was obtained from the victim.

Detective Police Constable Abu Sheriff Kamara intimated that at the end of the voluntary caution statement, he charged the accused with the offence of Sexual Penetration of a Child Under Age of Eighteen years.

The matter comes up again on Thursday 19th October 2017.
