Global Youth Ambassador of the Movement Amed Jah, who is popularly known as Pompay described Dr. Yumkella’s trip as successful. He said the reason for the trip was for their leader to inform his supporters in the diaspora reasons why he suspended his aspirations in the Sierra Leone People’s Party and how he would work with progressive minds in the country to further his bid for the Presidency of the country in a coalition.
He said Sierra Leonean residents in the diaspora and particularly in America have in past elections of the country sponsored successful campaigns. This he said would not be different in 2018 as many of them have pledged their considerable financial support to their leader’s bid. Pompay further revealed that the Sierra Leoneans also promised to sensitize their relatives in the country on the need for them to vote for Dr. Yumkella in the presidential elections, considering the high rate of unemployment and deepening poverty in the country. This he said are the reasons why most citizens in Sierra Leone depend on their relative abroad for livelihood.
“Most of our relatives in the US are happy that KKY is in the 2018 race to State House; they believe he is the only man that would empower the private sector of the country, to enable them return home. They are tired of paying taxes in another man’s country” He said.
During Dr. Yumkella’s absence in the country the Minister of Information Mohamed Bangura accused him of impersonating the President to world leaders, this the Media and Communications Coordinator of the KKY Movement, Former First Lady Mrs. Isatu Jabbie Kabbah said is not far from what she referred to as the bad press championed by their opponents since their Leader suspended his aspirations in their party and had an independent candidate wins the Kambia Bye Election. “…. but we were expecting a more constructive attack, and we know the worst will soon come” she said, emphasizing that as a communications expert she is well prepared for those attacks. “Nobody will defame our stainless candidate” The Former First Lady stressed.
Commenting further on the Minster’s accusation, she said when their Leader returned home, they are expecting the Minister’s Boss to confirm the accusation, noting that Dr. Yumkella had initially stated that he will react to the allegation when it comes from the President. Dr. Yumkella was welcomed in Freetown by his supporters from across the country. “This is to show the world that they are prepared to endure whatever insults and bad press meted-out at them by their opponents”.
The KKY supporters said they actually believed that Kandeh Yumkella is the appropriate Man to liberate Sierra Leone in the forthcoming Elections; no one will distract them from relaying to the people of this country, the economic crisis and hardship the ten years APC ruling has taken the country, the former first lady stated.
