The All People’s Congress (APC) Party Members of Parliament, have yesterday 8th February, 2023 endorsed Dr. Samura Mathew Wilson Kamara to become the Party’s flagbearer for the 2023 presidential election.

The MPs met in Committee Room One, House of Parliament, where the leader of the Party in Parliament, Hon. Chernor Maju Bah said Dr. Samura Kamara is the fittest for the position and they will give him their unflinching support.

Addressing the MPs at the Committee Room in response to the endorsement, Dr. Samura Kamara thanked all the MPs for bestowing their trust on him and described the moment as a true demonstration of love, trust and unity within the APC Party.

He assured the MPs that he will bring his skills to make Sierra Leone a better place for everyone.

Deputy Leader of the APC in Parliament, Hon. Hassan Sesay, encouraged all MPs to take ownership of the Party’s elections campaign once it is declared open and further ensure that they support Dr. Samura Kamara to victory.

Reports say Dr. Samura Kamara will officially declare his intention for the flagbearership of the Party on Sunday 12th February 2023 in Makeni.

It can be recalled that Dr. Samura Kamara has been cleared off criminal records by the Sierra Leone Police on Monday 6th February, 2023.

The Sierra Leone Police Force is responsible for screening citizens of the country vying for the national office of the country prior to their nominations first at their parties’ national delegates conferences and then at the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone before they could be cleared of the any records for the national office they intend to hold.

This process by the Police is routinely carried out in order to satisfy public confidence of the aspirants. It also indicates that they were being competent to hold the highest office of the land.

On the contrary, if a member of the public vying for the highest office of the land is found wanting of criminal charges the police will withhold the clearance and spell to the member because he could not be allowed to proceed on a national political activity like becoming Presidential Candidate to contest a party delegates convention or the President of Sierra Leone due to the criminal record that you owe.

The tradition is being maintained as part of the Sierra Leone Constitution, Act N0. 6, 1991 till date. This also to ensure that the person aiming to hold the highest seat of the land was eligible for all purposes.

In the police clearance date 6th February, 2023, the Sierra Leone Police stated that they were satisfied with Dr. Samura Kamara after he was being screened by name check and finger prints and no evidence of any criminal records was found in his data by the police.

“There is no criminal record traced against him in our records”, the third paragraph of the police stated.
