Confirmed eyewitness reports say the violence erupted after supporters of the SLPP who were on the street welcoming one of their intending flagbearer aspirants, Julius Maada Bio who was scheduled to officially declare his intention to lead the party to the 2018 elections.

Reports say the jubilant SLPP supporters march passed Old Railway Line on the frontage of the APC headquarters where they met with very stiff challenge from some APC supporters who denied them access to pass in front of their party headquarters.

Despite some onlookers described the action the APC supporters to have blocked the SLPP jubilant as childish and bad politics, much of the blames were directed at the SLPP supporters who refused to pass through Savage Street as designated by the Sierra Leone Police and instead used the Old Railway Line.

The ugly event was dressed with missiles throwing, wounding and destruction of private properties of peaceful citizens residing and passing through that end.

“I was standing close to the main gate when I saw some youth from both the APC and SLPP looked drugged approaching my way. They took what looked like empty pints and other missiles from inside their backpacks and before I knew what was coming I heard a very loud smash of pints breaking against the wall and I ran for cover,” an eyewitness explained.

Reports say police have arrested and detained a good number of the rioters whiles some others badly wounded were rushed to nearby health facilities.
