The meeting which attracted over 100 police personnel, was one of the PNB partnership and collaboration sensitization campaigns funded by DFID as a support to the Government of Sierra Leone in its pursuit against the prevalence of bribery in the MDAs.

Speaking in the engagement, ACC Head of Unit Outreach, Glennis Kaitibi informed the officers that the PNB campaign functions as an innovative reporting platform that allows citizens to make reports of bribery through the 515 hotline, the mobile App in English, Mende, Temne and Krio and the website (www.pnb.gov.sl). She intimated them that the pilot phase of the PNB is designed to collect real time data and evidence on the occurrence of bribery and corruption in five key service delivery sectors which are: Police, Education, Electricity, Health and Water.

Madam Kaitibi also explained to the SLP that the platform provides three options of reports: I PAID A BRIBE, I DID NOT PAY A BRIBE and I MET AN HONEST OFFICIAL. The Head of Outreach called on the Police to do all they could to ensure that members of the Force are encouraged to reject and resist all forms of bribery, so that the perception of the general populace will be transformed about the Police from what it used to be as evidenced in the 2013 National Corruption Perception Survey.

Responding, AIG Mustapha S. Kambeh, Director of Corporate Affairs of the SLP, who also doubles as the PNB Focal Person for the SLP declared that the SLP is very serious about the fight against corruption. He outlined steps the institution has taken in the recent past to eradicate opportunities of bribery. He said corruption, contrary to the perception of many, is by far more prevalent in many other institutions order that the Police. He reiterated that the SLP has put many structures in place to prevent occurrences of graft.

Motivating Police Officers to log on to the PNB website, Koma Yeama Gandi, Call Centre Operator reported that there have been over 10,000 reports so far in the campaign, and that these reports have mainly come from the pilot Districts of Western Area Urban and Rural, Bo, Bombali and Kenema. Koma noted that reports to the PNB portal are 100% anonymous. The programme ended with a plenary session where Police Officers expressed their willingness to give maximum support the fight against bribery.
