Speaking on the importance of AYV Miss University, Head of Entertainment at the AYV media Empire, Olayinka Olu-Collier encouraged the ladies who auditioned to be brave.

She said Miss University is an annual event organised by the Africa Young Voices Media Empire (AYV) and this year is no exception as AYV Media Empire is doing it together with the National Union of Sierra Leone Students (NUSS).

Olu-Collier said: “The Miss Sierra Leone 2023 competition will involve contestants from each of the districts, with a view to select a district representative, culminating in the national Miss Sierra Leone pageant. The entire process will be transparent and will be broadcast across media platforms. The Miss Sierra Leone Limited is a not-for-profit company with the primary objective of organising national competitions to select a beauty queen for the country.

“The organisation has been credited for it work, in showcasing the strength, beauty, and intelligence of women in Sierra Leone, including for supporting the winner in her charitable work and being able to serve a positive role model for young women in the country, inspiring them to become responsible and respectable citizens.

“Miss Sierra Leone Limited was formed in 2001 and had its first pageant the same year, after a twelve-year hiatus, the company had a rebirth and organised more and improved pageants in 2014, 2016, 2018, and 2019, all these events were acknowledged as the best entertainment events of the years in which they were hosted”.

These pageants held over these years crowned Miss Margeret Murray, Miss Aminata Bangura, Miss Sarah Laura Tucker and Miss Enid Jones Boston (present) as Miss Sierra Leone respectively. Miss Sierra Leone 2019 Enid Jones Boston represented Sierra Leone at the Miss World Beauty pageant in the United Kingdom on 14th December 2019. She is the third crowned Miss Sierra Leone to compete on the Miss World competition and she won a medal for courage and her performance in a team with other contestants.

This year’s event will happen on 1st December 2023 at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Freetown.
