A British medical researcher in Sierra Leone, Simon Scholes, speaking to AYV before going to press last evening underscored the very urgent need for government to tighten security on the country’s porous borders, especially the sea.

According to him, while doing his research in some parts of the country on how some of these harmful drugs enter the country, he unearthed that they are being smuggled into the country, mostly using small fishing boats landing on small rivers and seaside, especially along the Peninsular of Freetown.

He said he was also able to unearth that in most parts of the country, smuggling of these drugs into the country is aided by unpatriotic security personnel deployed in crossing points and local authorities.

Simon exposed further that not all boats spotted on the country’s high seas are fishing boats, but that most of them are boats aiding and abetting bigger ships, trawlers and boats to transport the drugs from sea to land, especially during the night.

A drug peddler in Kambia town, who do not want to be named, told this reporter that he buys the drugs from boat owners and taxi drivers plying routes between Kambia and Guinea at night.

Responding to questions as to whether he was actually being patriotic to his country and people by dealing on harmful drugs, his answer was no, but that since Tramadol and Dragon are two of the fastest selling and profit making drugs in that part of the country, he has no option but to continue the deal.

A young man who identified himself as Ahmed in Goderich, confirmed to AYV that he is into Tramadol and Dragon abuse and that he cannot do without them for a day, especially when engaging in sexual intercourse with a woman.

“I use Tramadol, Dragon and sometime Jah-scotch to make me go hyped and boost my sexual sensation whenever I am having sex with a woman and when playing football” Ahmed said with smiles of shyness on his face.
