All People’s Congress (APC) Party’s Member of Parliament, Honourable Osman Timbo has cautioned against any attempt to alter Sierra Leone’s Constitution outside the procedures prescribed by law, describing such actions as a serious constitutional offence.
Citing Section 108, Subsection 8 of the Parliament of Sierra Leone, Hon. Timbo stated that any individual or group that seeks to amend or interfere with the Constitution without adhering to due parliamentary process would be committing an act of treason.
According to him, the Constitution clearly outlines the legal framework for amendments, including the necessary parliamentary procedures and, where applicable, broader consultative or referendum requirements. He stressed that bypassing these constitutional mechanisms undermines democratic governance and the rule of law.
Hon. Timbo emphasised that constitutional order must be protected at all costs, noting that the stability of the state depends on strict adherence to established legal processes. He urged citizens, lawmakers, and political actors to respect institutional procedures and safeguard the integrity of the nation’s supreme law.
His remarks come amid ongoing national discussions surrounding governance, legal reforms, and constitutional compliance, reinforcing the importance of due process in any proposed changes to the country’s legal framework.
