China awards over 100 scholarships to Sierra Leoneans

The Chinese embassy in partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs utilized the event to thoroughly orientate this year’s Chinese Government Scholarship awardees as way of preparing them ahead of their forthcoming travel to the People’s Republic of China.

Awarding scholarships by the Chinese Government has been part of the long standing flourish relationship between the two countries. The scholarships tend to capacitate the human resources in Sierra Leone, as result of this, the Chinese Government hundred percent increase the quota of their scholarships awarding to Sierra Leoneans.

Minister of Foreign Affairs applauded the Chinese Government for their tremendous support in boosting Sierra Leone’s human resource. He said the Chinese people have been very instrumental in promoting the infrastructural development in Sierra Leone. He therefore admonished the awardees to be the ambassadors of Sierra Leone in China.

Dr. Samura Kamara added “it is not always easy when you go overseas, I want you to respect and adhere to the pieces of advice you have been given, the first one is to try and understand the Chinese culture and I think the language is very paramount if you can speak their language you will be able to win their heart, I think you have responsibility as they teach you Chinese, you teach them English that is complimentary.”

Press Attaché of Sierra Leone Embassy in China, John Baimba Sesay thanked the Chinese Government for their tremendous support in boosting the country’s human resource by continuously awarding scholarship to Sierra Leoneans, he called on the awardees to be focused and dedicated to the scholarship they are warded.

He maintained that the Chinese people are friendly and accommodating, he therefore called on the awardees to be at their best and learn the Chinese language which could enhance their relationship with them.

 Awardees of this year’s Chinese scholarship promised to provide quality representations of the country during their tenure in China. They said they are very determined to learn technical skills that they will in-turn exhibit and implement in Sierra Leone, after the completion of their scholarships.
