The First Lady Dr. Fatima Maada Bio has encouraged residents of Kono district to vote wisely on polling day by choosing development over politics.

“I call on the people of Kono to choose development over politics and vote overwhelmingly for President Dr. Julius Maada Bio and the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) in the forthcoming elections.” Dr. Bio stated whilst addressing the people of Kono at the Koidu Community Field during the launch of the SLPP Campaign in the district.

Dr. Bio said the SLPP Manifesto hinges on five thematic areas of which agriculture is the flagship. Dubbed “Feed Salone”, she reckoned the initiative will boost agricultural productivity to ensure food security and inclusive economic growth, create employment opportunities for the youths and generate enough revenue to support government activities.

Highlighting President Bio’s development track record in Kono district, Her Excellency noted that Koidu city and a number of villages are currently enjoying uninterrupted electricity with more roads and culverts constructed during the last 5 years, including the ongoing Kono-Guinea Border Road, which will increase trade and economic activities between the two countries.

She added that in the government’s quest to provide access to quality education to the people of Kono, more schools have also been constructed.

“President Bio made a commitment to construct a University in Kono. I am pleased to inform that the University of Kono and the Maternal Centre of Excellence are currently under construction. President Bio has promised more for Kono in his second term in office. I call on the people of Kono to choose development over politics and vote overwhelmingly for the President and the SLPP in the forthcoming elections,” Madam Fatima Bio stated.

On her part, Hon. Rebecca Yei Sam, the first-ever female MP from Kono, said that the women of Kono and Sierra Leone are extremely proud of President Bio’s gender empowerment strides, noting that the Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment Act will accelerate women’s participation in politics and decision making. She added that since 2018, Kono has enjoyed peace, stability and development and therefore assured of their unflinching support to President Bio’s re-election agenda.
