The Civil Society Consortium on National Security has appealed to the government to lift the suspension on Securiport Sierra Leone Limited.
Speaking to this media on Friday 3rd July 2026, the Executive Director of the Consortium, Madam HawaKoroma, stated that Securiport has been doing an applaudable work in ensuring the security and safety of travellers coming in and exiting the country.
She explained that Securiport is a global leader in civil aviation security and border management, and that they have been partnering with the government by deploying intelligent immigration control systems, real-time threat detection, and big data analytics designed to prevent human trafficking, identity theft, and illegal travel. She also noted that Securiport operates an advanced fingerprint and facial recognition system to verify travellers’ identities and detect forged passports, thereby connecting local immigration checkpoints with international security databases for instantaneous background checks. “Securiport plays a pivotal role in safeguarding our nation through the state-of-the-artadvanced biometric technology at the Freetown International Airport,” she emphasised.
By providing digital health data screening and tracking technologies to help the government mitigate the spread of transmissible diseases, Securiport also plays a pivotal role in the health sector, she underscored, adding that they have been instrumental in supporting the fight against Mpox and have supported education from time to time. She further pinpointed that a nation cannot develop if its security mechanism or apparatus is fragile.
An independent interview conducted by this writer shows massive support for the activities of Securiportas the majority of the people interviewed called on the government to lift the suspension levied upon their operations. It could be recalled that the government,through the Internal Affairs Ministry, on 3rd July 2026,in a Public Notice, ordered a temporary suspension oftheir operations at the Freetown International Airport. The suspension takes effect on Monday, 6th July 2026 and runs indefinitely.
