Alhaji Koroma, a soldier of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF), who was arrested in connection with the November 26, 2023 Failed Attempted Coup in Sierra Leone has pleaded Guilty to 9 out of Charges levied against him and others.
Koroma is among twenty-seven serving military personnel facing a Court Martial presided over by Senior Magistrate Marke Ngegba and a panel of seven others in Freetown.
After the charges were read to the accused persons, the first accused Alhaji Koroma pleaded Guilty to 9 counts charges of Mutiny, Aiding and Abetting and Communication with the Enemy.
He also tendered an apology to the Court and the President of Sierra Leone, His Excellency Dr. Julius Maada Bio, stating that he was used to commit such acts which he confessed he did but not wholeheartedly.
The personnel are arraigned with charges bordering on Mutiny to Overthrow the Government, Failure to Suppress Mutiny, Aiding the Enemy, Communicating with the Enemy, Stealing of Public or Service Property, Fraudulent Misapplication of Public or Service Property and Murder.
The Prosecution is expected to lead 52 witnesses save as inputted and it is being led by Senior State Council, Joseph K. Sesay while the accused persons are represented by battery of defense attorneys including Ade Macaulay Esq., Melron Nicol Wilson Esq., Julian Cole Esq. and Legal Aid Board for unrepresented accused persons.
The proceeding is guided by the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces Act, 1961 as amended among others.
