Following his engagements in Banjul, The Gambia, where he was honored with a Lifetime Leadership Award, Hon. Dr. Kandeh Yumkella has arrived in New York to take part in a series of engagements on the margins of the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
As chairman of Sierra Leone’s Energy Governance Coordination Group (EGCG) and President Bio’s Initiative on Climate Change, Renewable Energy and Food Security, Hon. Yumkella is billed to speak at and moderate numerous events planned for the High-Level week.
As Sierra Leone prepares to sign the Mission 300 Compact, Hon. Yumkella and team have been busy leading the organisation of a side event slated for today, September 23 – “From Compact to Impact” to showcase the country’s pioneering model to deliver universal energy access at the last mile.
On September 24, under the leadership of President Julius Maada Bio, Sierra Leone will sign one of the largest energy infrastructure package the country has ever seen under the Mission 300 initiative championed by the World Bank, African Development Bank and global partners.
Mission 300 work collaboratively with partners to address Africa’s energy poverty by providing 300 million people with reliable, affordable and sustainable electricity.
Hon. Yumkella joined the Global Africa Business Initiative (GABI’s) 4th annual Unstoppable Africa as a speaker. The event convened global and African leaders across sectors to highlight the continent’s dynamic investment and development landscape.
In New York, Hon. Yumkella is accompanied by Pete Kaindaneh, Chief Technical Adviser and Anthony Kamara, Director of Partnerships, Communications and Outreach from the Presidential Initiative on Climate Change, Renewable Energy and Food Security (PI-CREF).
