The Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (EC-SL) has received over two hundred pallets of Ballot Papers and Reports and Reconciliation Forms (RRFs) for the June 24, 2023 general elections.

The elections materials, from South Africa, landed at the Freetown International Airport in Lungi and their delivery, offloading and handing over, were witnessed and observed by political party representatives, elections monitoring bodies, security personnel and the media (both local and international).

The process was also observed by the All People’s Congress (APC) Party, the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), the Political Party Regulation Commission (PPRC), the National Elections Watch (NEW) and the All Political Parties Women’s Association (APPWA), among other institutions.

Director of Operations at EC-SL, Mohamed Turay, outlined the Commission’s plans after receipt of the materials.

He said after sorting out the materials based on the election and district for it, they will be taken to a district office of the EC-SL to be protected by joint security personnel from the Sierra Leone Police and the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces.

He concluded that the plans for the elections continue unhindered and Saturday’s activities are expected to go on without a hitch.

EC-SL’s Electoral Commissioner for the North, Abubakarr Koroma said the ballot papers were requested for according to the number of people that registered in each district.

He said EC-SL had earlier requested from the Military of Sierra Leone trucks with armed security personnel to accompany and secure the ballot papers until they get to their respective districts, adding that the EC-SL is very much prepared to conduct the elections this coming Saturday and that trainings are presently ongoing for the various polling staff.
