The Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (EC-SL) has officially announced nomination dates for political parties for the June 2023 multi-tier elections to start today 19th April, 2023.

According to the EC-SL, the nomination process for the United Democratic Movement (UDM) starts today 19, and ends tomorrow 20th April, 2023.

The National Grand Coalition (NGC) has Friday 21st and 22nd April, Coalition For Change (C4C), Sunday 23rd and Monday 6th April, the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) on Tuesday 25th and Wednesday 26th April and the All People’s Congress (APC) on Thursday 27th and Friday 28th April, 2023.

In a similar development, the EC-SL has signed contracts with twenty-five Civil Society Organisations (CSO’s) to strengthen Electoral Education and Sensitisation on the Proportional Representation System using money donated by ECOWAS.

Similarly, the Commission has hosted a joint delegation from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the African Union (AU) who are on a fact-finding mission to Sierra Leone to gauge the level of the electoral and political preparedness of institutions and players for the June 2023 multitier elections.

Chief Electoral Commissioner and Chairman for EC-SL, Mohamed K. Konneh used the opportunity to give a general update to the delegation and also made critical clarifications on some of the issues or concerns that were raised by the ECOWAS and AU officials, based on the delegation’s earlier engagements with political parties and other stakeholders on the Electoral Commission’s state of preparedness to conduct the June 2023 elections.
