The Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (EC-SL) has revealed that it will announce official results for the June 24, 2023 general elections within 48 hours.
National Returning Officer, Mohamed K. Konneh was speaking exclusively to AYV television when he said: “Maybe later today, I will start announcing provisional results but let them give me another 48 hours for me to announce the official results.”
“If I succumb to pressure now, I will be forced to do the wrong thing. So, I will just do what is right and give the people of Sierra Leone authentic results”.
He said the process was being monitored in a transparent manner by political party observers, media and international and national observers, adding that 95% of the results are all in the Tally Center at the various regions.
Responding to calls for the projection of results across tallying centers, Mr. Konneh explained that the Commission had not made any provisions for projecting figures. However, he said collated results were being printed out and data given to observers at various stages of the process.
“All political parties were aware that projection was not a possibility due to the system. Political parties, I’m available for discussion on the processes. Let avoid giving false hope to our supporters and putting the EC-SL staff as a target. I want to assure you that these are the same procedures we used in 2012 and 2018”. Mr. Konneh stated.
