The Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone, led by Chief Electoral Commissioner and Chairman Edmond Alpha, has paid a courtesy visit to Statistics Sierra Leone at its temporary office in Freetown.

The engagement was aimed at strengthening collaboration and enhancing working relations between the two institutions in the areas of national development, data management, and institutional cooperation.

The ECSL delegation included Northern Region Commissioner Abubakar Koroma and Eastern Region Commissioner Alex Saffa. They were received by the Statistician-General of Stats SL, Andrew Bob Johnny, alongside members of the institution’s management team.

Speaking during the visit, Mr. Edmond Alpha emphasized the importance of credible statistical data in promoting democracy, transparency, and effective electoral management. He noted that ECSL relies heavily on accurate demographic information for electoral planning, voter registration, polling station distribution, logistics, and boundary delimitation.

He also called for deeper cooperation between the two institutions through regular coordination meetings, review of existing Memoranda of Understanding, and technical training exchanges for staff.

Responding on behalf of Stats SL, Statistician-General Andrew Bob Johnny welcomed the ECSL delegation and reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to supporting electoral processes through the provision of reliable demographic data.

He stressed the importance of continued technical collaboration and knowledge sharing, noting that accurate statistics remain essential for national development planning and democratic governance.

The meeting ended with both institutions reaffirming their commitment to sustained partnership and cooperation in strengthening democratic institutions and advancing national development in Sierra Leone.
