Sierra Leone’s first ever female Minister of Sports, Augusta James-Teima has taken over the mantle of leadership at the Ministry of Sports.

Addressing staff and executives at the Ministry’s Conference Hall, Madam James-Teima expressed thanks to the outgoing Minister, Ibrahim Nyelenkeh, for a job well done. She stated that all the recommendations in his handing over notes will be considered in terms of continuity and development within the Ministry of Sports.

She admitted that there are challenges, but was swift to note that with the positive support from her staff, the National Sports Authority, and the outgoing Minister, they will surely succeed.

“A big thanks to my President, H.E Julius Maada Bio for making me the first female Minister of Sports”, she underscored.

In his statement, the outgoing Sports Minister, Ibrahim Nyelenkeh, congratulated Madam Teima as the first Female Minister of Sports, adding that with her experience and knowledge within the game of sports, she will live up to the expectations of the President.

He expressed thanks to Allah for taking him throughout his tenure, outlining his success stories and challenges. He thanked President Bio for his financial support during his tenure in office and for giving him the opportunity to serve as Sports Minister.

“Madam Minister, I am always at your service to give you advice and full support whenever you request. With this statement from me, I have the honor and privilege to hand over the mantle of leadership to you.”
