In the new Cabinet appointments made by His Excellency President Dr. Julius Maada Bio on July 15, 2023, Augusta James Teima was appointed as Minister of Sports.

She is the first woman to hold this position in the history of the West African nation.

Mrs. Teima is a former athlete and sports administrator. She is a Lecturer at the Milton Margai Technical University and has served in the Sierra Leone Athletics Association.

Her appointment is a significant step forward for gender equality and equity in Sierra Leone.

Mrs. Teima said: “I am honored to be appointed as Minister of Sports. I am committed to working to promote sports development in Sierra Leone and to ensuring that all Sierra Leoneans have the opportunity to participate in sports.”

It is hoped that she will use her position to promote sports in Sierra Leone as a more inclusive and lucrative venture.
