Canvassing the Judge to tamper justice with mercy on behalf of his Client, I.P.Mamie started his submission by apologizing to the court, the people of Sierra Leone and relatives of the deceased for what he referred to as an unfortunate incident and that the offence for which his Client was charged carried very grave offence against the state.

Lawyer Mamie informed the well attended court that, the accused committed very grave offence against the deceased, his relatives and the people of this country, adding that the bottom line is that  Fatmata Taulker was very much remorseful throughout the trial process.

He further submitted that, the remorseful nature and conduct of Fatmata Taulker needs not to be expressed in words but in conduct and should be given an opportunity to make amends in life time.

 The defense lawyer stated further that Fatmata Taulker did confess to the court that, the deceased was good to her and pleaded guilty to the offence charged.

According to lawyer Mamie, her Client never wanted to waste the court’s precious time and canvassed the presiding Judge to look at the human side of Fatmata Taulker noting that , the offence committed by Fatmata Taulker  is not extra ordinary to the behavior of other human beings.

“My Client is a fallible being and she allowed the human side to get the better out of her. The world is not an evil place but humans make the world  evil place. There will be a mistake in life time and there can never be a better person and only the deceased and Fatmata Taulker knew what actually transpired between them,” lawyer Mamie lamented.

He also submitted that, his Client has a child and on the day in question, she was given some money to buy some goods but however wondered how she developed such a strong and evil heartedness to slit the throat of her boy friend and concluded by suggesting that the court should sentence his Client to five years imprisonment.

On his part, the State Counsel G.M.Bockarie canvassed the Judge to sentence Fatmata Taulker to a maximum prison term of ninety five on the legal grounds that,  the killing of Saidu Bangura was not in any way justifiable and therefore a precedent should established to put an end to such monstrous and animalistic behavior.

Furthermore, Fatmata Taulker apologized to Sierra Leoneans, the court and relatives of the deceased and begged for forgiveness, because according to her, she did not know what was actually wrong with her and that her parent has disowned her.

In his wisdom, Justice Alusine Sesay said, he has considered the evidence adduced by the prosecution and that he is well satisfied that the prosecution has provided sufficient evidence in respect of the offence for which Fermata Taulker was charged.

He pointed out that, the spate of reckless killing in various part of the country has become a cause for concern and Fatmata Taulker slaughter the deceased like an animal considering the fact that the deceased, Saidu Bangura was very useful to the society and was working for the United Nations in war torn Somalia and also a father of three children.

Justice Alusine Sesay said the court takes judicial notice of the spate of reckless killing by irresponsible and evil minded youths which is a bad omen for the country and the future of future generation, stating that, he was sentencing Fatmata Taulker to thirty years imprisonment for killing her boy friend, boy friend, Saidu Bangura at the Sufizain Hotel in Lungi on 6th April 2014 contrary to law.
