Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mohamed Rahman Swaray, has engaged Heads of Chancery across Sierra Leone’s diplomatic missions abroad in a virtual meeting aimed at strengthening coordination, accountability and efficiency within the country’s Foreign Service.

The meeting, held from Accra, Ghana, focused on communicating the Minister’s priorities and ensuring that diplomatic missions align their activities with Sierra Leone’s foreign policy direction and national development aspirations.

During the engagement, Minister Swaray underscored the importance of strengthening bilateral and multilateral cooperation, advancing economic diplomacy, attracting foreign investment and enhancing engagement with Sierra Leoneans in the diaspora.

He also stressed the need to promote professionalism and improve institutional performance across the country’s diplomatic missions, emphasising that effective diplomacy must deliver measurable benefits for Sierra Leone and its people.

The Minister highlighted the critical responsibilities of Heads of Chancery in ensuring effective coordination within diplomatic missions, managing public resources prudently and translating government priorities into tangible outcomes.

He noted that stronger administrative systems and greater accountability are essential to ensuring that diplomatic missions operate efficiently and contribute meaningfully to the country’s foreign policy objectives.

The virtual meeting follows earlier consultations between Minister Swaray and Sierra Leone’s Ambassadors and Heads of Diplomatic Missions. The engagements form part of his efforts to establish a coordinated approach to diplomatic leadership and strengthen the alignment of missions abroad with the government’s broader development agenda.

Swaray reaffirmed his commitment to advancing the vision of President Julius Maada Bio and strengthening Sierra Leone’s standing in the international community through purposeful, coordinated and results-oriented diplomacy.

The engagement comes amid growing emphasis on economic diplomacy as a means of mobilising investment, expanding international partnerships and creating opportunities for national development.

Through closer collaboration between the Ministry and diplomatic missions, the government aims to improve the effectiveness of Sierra Leone’s international engagements while ensuring that foreign policy initiatives support the country’s economic and development priorities.

The Minister’s engagement with Heads of Chancery signals a continued push towards a more cohesive, responsive and accountable Foreign Service, with professionalism, unity and measurable results at the centre of Sierra Leone’s diplomatic activities.
