Sierra Leone’s Minister of Health and Sanitation, Dr Austin Demby has told the “Health and Wellness Business Forum” in Dubai that Sierra Leone is ready to play its part in achieving global health equity.

The Forum, which was organised by the EXPO 2020 Dubai and the Dubai Chamber of Commerce, brought together policy leaders, medical practitioners and the private sector to discuss ways of partnership and collaboration in achieving universal equity in healthcare systems.

“For us in Sierra Leone, it’s really important that we all become part of the solution and in being part of the solution, we really need to be at the table where our voices will be heard,” he said, adding that despite the challenges facing its health sector, Sierra Leone was having a very ambitious plan geared towards changing that narrative.

He mentioned his country was looking at taking advantage of the opportunities presented in innovation, new technologies, human resources for health and more importantly looking at health insurance to create better opportunities for all.

President of the Dubai Chambers, H.E Hamad Buamim, said that health and wellness were top priorities for governments around the world, noting the Forum provided a platform for discussion on health issues from a business perspective.

“The UAE keeps attracting cutting-edge technologies and human development in the medical field. The success of EXPO 2020 Dubai, as the main mega event during COVID, sends a strong message that our country is open for business and can bring nations together to share knowledge and innovative solutions that address the global challenges,” he said.

Minister Demby was accompanied by his deputy, Princess Dugba and other senior members of the ministry.
