Vice Chairman of Human Rights Commission for Sierra Leone (HRCSL), Victor Idrissa Lansana served as a guest lecturer at the ongoing training of National Youth Service (NYC) Corps at the Peace Mission Training Centre currently hosting 360 Corps, including 162 females.

In his presentation on the topic: ‘Understanding Fundamental Human Rights’, he spoke on the basics of human rights; emphasising on citizens’ responsibility as well as the duty of the state to respect, protect and fulfill human rights especially as the country heads to the polls in June.

Commissioner Lansana cited provisions in Section 13 of the Constitution of Sierra Leone 1991 to further explain duties and responsibilities of citizens including patriotism, nationalism, respect for authorities, providing assistance to law enforcement agencies in maintaining law and order, and contributing towards community development among others.

The presentation ended with an interactive question-and-answer session. The Corps applauded the Commission and was excited to learn more. HRCSL has been delivering presentations on human rights to previous corps to help build and maintain the culture of human rights, especially among public officers.
