Cameroonian activist, influencer and cultural ambassador Maybelle Boma, popularly known as “Ada 1 of Cameroon,” has praised Sierra Leone’s First Lady, Mrs. Fatima Maada Bio, following their recent meeting.

Maybelle said the encounter deeply moved her, particularly because of the First Lady’s advocacy for the protection of girls and her campaign against child, early and forced marriage.

According to the Cameroonian activist, she rarely sees African First Ladies use their platforms as strongly to champion the rights and future of young girls as Mrs. Fatima Maada Bio has done.

Her admiration comes after the First Lady addressed the United Nations Headquarters on September 4, 2026, where she championed the establishment of November 27 as the International Day for the Elimination of Child, Early and Forced Marriage.

Maybelle said witnessing the First Lady’s humility, simplicity and commitment to girls’ rights brought tears to her eyes, adding that her advocacy gives hope and a voice to millions of girls facing early and forced marriage.

She called on more First Ladies across Africa to use their influence to advocate for women and girls, describing Mrs. Fatima Maada Bio’s campaign as an example of leadership focused on protecting the vulnerable and creating meaningful change.
