A technical team from the Ministry of Information and Communications has embarked on a nationwide monitoring and evaluation of the National Fiber Backbone Phase 2 Project.

The exercise commenced on 21st February and will be completed on the 2nd March 2023, and is geared towards the acceptance of the project nationwide.

In 2018, President Dr. Julius Maada Bio promised to enhance broadband access across the country, improve rural telecommunications and create customer choice and affordability.

In the same vein, on 2nd September 2019, the Government of Sierra Leone through the Ministry of Finance secured a loan agreement with the Export-Import Bank of China for the construction of the National Fiber Backbone Phase 2 Project.

The contractors of the said project have completed the deployment of the infrastructure and the project is at the final stages of completion.

The visiting sites will be in Kailahun, Kenema, Kono, Bonthe, Bo, Pujehun, Moyamba, Koinadugu, Portloko, Makeni and Kabala.
