Iran’s President, Ebrahim Raisi, has been killed in a helicopter crash in a mountainous area of north-western Iran, the country’s state media has said.

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, the country’s foreign minister, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and several other officials were tragically discovered deceased on Monday following a helicopter crash in a foggy, mountainous area in Iran’s northwest, according to AP News.

Iran’s supreme leader has appointed First Vice President Mohammad Mokhber as country’s acting president after a helicopter crash killed President Ebrahim Raisi.

Supreme Leader – Ayatollah Ali Khamenei made the announcement in a condolence message he shared for Raisi’s death in the crash Sunday.
Khamenei also announced five days of mourning in the message.
