This is the big question for the All People’s Congress (APC) as the party holds its National Delegates Conference in Makeni. The Conference was put on hold due to objections by some of the aspiring flagbearers.

The pausing of the Conference instigated what appears to be agitation on the part of the APC rank and file as the aggrieved members of Conference were saying: “We want vote!” “We dae vote!”

The basis for the objections was not known.

Dr Ernest Bai Koroma former president of Sierra Leone and former Chairman of the APC has reminded delegates that the convention was a court ordered democratic process with a strict timeline which the APC must meet if the party must participate in the June general elections.

The former chairman intervened to rally the ‘troops’ back to business. He said prior to the commencement of the Conference, the Party had endured a fractious and painstaking Lower-Level elections which culminated into what many felt was the final stage of the party-political trials.

After Koroma’s speech, the flagbearer aspirants had their turn, eighteen of them, each had no more than three minutes to address their supporters.

They all spoke beautifully and they were all confident of victory not just at the party’s national delegates conference, but also the national polls.

They all affirmed that on June 24, the APC will win the polls and its elected presidential candidate will emerge as the President of the Republic of Sierra Leone. On to press time last evening, the Party was still on its voting process. See our next edition for more on this.

On Wednesday 15th February, 2023; the High Court of Sierra Leone issued an interim injunction restraining the Interim Transitional Governance Committee (ITGC) of the opposition All Peoples Congress Party (APC) from holding the National Delegates’ conference slated for 17th-19th February in Makeni city pending the hearing and determination of the application.

on Friday 17th February, hon. Justice Hannah Bonnie was approached again with a fresh Ex-parte Notice of Motion by the Defendants/Applicants seeking an order for the APC Party to hold its National Delegates’ Conference on grounds that the injunction granted by the Honourable Court did not touch and affect the All Peoples Congress Party.

That the Honourable Court do grant an order to the Transitional Interim Independent Elections Management Committee (TIIEMC) of the APC to conduct the National Delegates’ Conference slated for the 17th-19th February, 2023 in Makeni.

After listening to the oral submissions, Hon. Justice Hannah Bonnie granted leave to the All Peoples Congress to hold its National Delegates’ Conference effective 18th, 19th & 20th February, 2023 on grounds that the injunction didn’t affect the said APC Party.

Also, an order was also granted to the Transitional Interim Independent Elections Management Committee (TIIEMC) of the APC to conduct the National Delegates’ Conference in Makeni. There were no further orders as to cost.
