During their meeting, the women pointed out that “We prefer to use dialogue to encourage the two parties to award the symbols for constituency 001 bye-election to women aspirants to contest because there are competent and willing women in the two parties that have contributed to the existence and successes of the two parties,” they outlined.
Today’s engagement, according to the President of Kailahun Women in Governance Network (KWiGN), Lucy Gondor ,was a continuation of their humble plea and request made to leaders of the two main parties with regards the award of symbols to a female candidate for the coming bye-elections in that part of the country. She said their district is politically divided into eight (8) constituencies with ‘only one’ female parliamentarian which for them is unfair in terms of women’s representation for development and good governance.
The President, on behalf of her network members and SEND Foundation, are very optimistic of a positive and fruitful engagement with the leadership of both political parties for the award of the constituency ticket to a female candidate.
