The Chief Minister went on to state that the Solade Adams Public Lecture Series is about change and transformation of the country and Africa. According to Prof. Francis, politics in Sierra Leone has destroyed the country irrespective of its rich natural resources, a situation he attributed to all citizens and lamented the habit of looting with impunity which has resulted to widespread poverty in the country and general instability that led to the civil war.

He further said that administration of the state would no longer be business as usual but about efficient management of the country’s natural resources for the benefit of the people.

Earlier, chairman of the ceremony, Victor Massaquoi, asserted that the college is moving in the right direction. He commended staff and students for the progress made in six months, while recalling that the launch is the outcome of the assessment of the college in June last year. He added that the Solade Adams Lecture Series would significantly help students improve their English and understand complex issues of the day, and that the laboratory would help them understand different scientific formulas emphasizing that government puts premium on education.

The Goderich Headman, Rev. Arthur Coker-Davies observed that the college has made great strides under its Principal Dr. Philip John Kanu, adding that since the latter’s appointment there has been unity and peace in all the three campuses of the polytechnic, and that the Principal and his Vice Principal are not armchair administrators.

He informed his audience that the Principal has transformed the college and commended the government for its support to the college while reiterating the call for the college to be transformed into a full university.

The Acting Principal, Dr. Philip John Kanu, disclosed that he has renovated the Great Hall where great people meet, and that the day is a turning point in the history of the college beginning with the massive transformation taking place. He recalled that the college is renowned for its quality products but lamented the huge liabilities he inherited among other challenges.

He went on to say that massive rehabilitation is ongoing in the three campuses of the college stressing that the college is moving in the right direction to make students comfortable.
