Sierra Leone National Home Base football team (Leone Stars team B) was over the weekend defeated by their Malian counterparts by two goals to one (2-1) at the SKD Stadium in Monrovia.

The Leone Stars team B failed to capitalise from their opponents as Hamidou Sinayoko’s goal in the 23rd minute and OsmaniKamissoko got his in the 47th minute for the Malians to give them a two goals lead.

Striker Musa Noah Kamara aka Musa Tombo scored the consolation for Sierra Leone in the 91st minute from close range.  Sierra Leone will honor the return leg in a week in Mali for the African Nations Championship CHAN qualifiers.

The road for Sierra Leone to qualify for the second and final round in the African Nations Championship qualifiers that will be hosted in Algeria January next year still opened despites the two one loss to their Malian counterparts in the first leg in Monrovia Liberia.

Host Sierra Leone played away from home in Liberia and this was as a result of Sierra Leone’s home venue which does not met CAF of FIFA standards.

In all indications Sierra Leone has never qualified to the tournament since its establishment. The return leg will be in a week in Mali against the Eagles who are the runners up in the 2019 edition.
