Solicitor General, Mohamed Lamin Tarawalley Esq. has been appointed as Sierra Leone’s new Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, replacing the sacked Anthony Yeihwoe Brewah Esq.

This was announced last evening by State House. The new AG was in 2019 appointed and subscribed to the Oath of Office as Solicitor-General.

Shortly after taking the Oath of Office, Tarawalley, later assumed his role as the Principal Assistant to the Attorney General and Minister of Justice and Professional Head of the Law Officers’ Department.

He worked with the former Attorney General to build, develop and improve the justice department otherwise known as the Law Officers’ Department, which is the largest government law firm.

It can be recalled that the sacked AG Anthony Yeihwoe Brewah took up office on Tuesday 7 July 2020.

Despite State House has not stated reason(s) for Anthony Yeihwoe Brewah sacking, many believe it could not be unconnected with his suspected fishy role in the controversial presidential pardoning of Baimba Moiforay fondly called LAC on January 1st.

LAC was sentenced to Death by Hanging in October 2016 after being convicted of the June 2015 Murder of popular DJ, Sydney Buckle.

He was part of the one hundred and sixty inmates who were granted Presidential Pardon on January 1st following recommendations by a Committee that is headed by Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh and the sacked AG is a member.

State House Press Secretary and Presidential Spokesman, Yusuf Keketoma Sandi has said on public radio yesterday that the process to grant pardon to LAC was irregular and flawed.

He said the Prerogative of Mercy Committee did not meet certain criteria and these are the issues that will be investigated by the Investigation Committee that are yet to be made public.
