According to the disgruntled riders, their actions are informed by alleged extortion of monies from them by the new road safety corps, an allegation which was promptly debunked by Sierra Leone Roads Safety Authority’s (SLRSA) Director of Operations, Kai Tongi.

The Authority’s big man counter accused the riders of not wanting to be regulated. He said all fines levied for road safety breaches are paid into the authority’s bank account.
Director Tongi informed that the Authority’s office in Makeni was left seriously damaged following last evening’s riotous conduct put up by the riders.

He lauded the timely intervention police and military personnel who had to employ the use of tear gas canisters to save the regional office and other important buildings and offices from been torched.

Local Unit Commander of the Rogbaneh Police Division, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Songu is said to have summoned a tripartite meeting to resolve the impasse.

The bike riders’ leadership has denounced the action of it members and say they will not associate themselves with any member arrested for lawlessness.

In what appears as MAC-P in force the military has been deployed in strategic areas to forestall any lawless action anticipated by the striking riders.
