According to public account, the robbery of motorcycles is largely carried out by commercial riders in disguise. By extension, other members of the public allege that quite a number of commercial motorbike riders can be better described as robbers and ex – rebels and ex – combatants who fear little or nothing, irrespective of the existence of the law.

In an attempt to cub the menace, the police say they are intensifying security patrols at night to making sure the presence of especially commercial motorbike on the street is curtailed.

Out of what they called ‘common experience’, some members of the public insist that the issue of bribery and forceful extortion on detained suspects and confiscated motorbikes would surely have to kill the spirit of the security operation.  “Once every police officer would begin to take advantage of the operation, then, nothing fruitful will have to come out it.  Instead, the public has to expect the worst to occur, whilst the operation is rendered totally useless”, suggested some anonymous senior stakeholders in Makeni.
