Yirra Conteh added that the haphazard disposal of waste into the country’s drainage system has created mass blockage and also asphyxiate the free flow of gutters water. In that vein, he called on the government including donor partners for technical and financial assistance, in order to addressing the worrisome situation regarding flooding and climate change in Sierra Leone.

In his statement, the Senior Regional Environmental Officer at the Environment Protection Agency (EPA) Sheku Tejan Saccoh disclosed that his institution was established by an Act of Parliament with a mandate to protect and preserve the environment, and for the people of this country to realize the benefits of the country’s environment.

Sheku Tejan Saccoh further intimated that environmental protection agency is currently collaborating with line ministries, agencies, and departments, such as, the Office of National Security (ONS) and the Ministry of Trade for necessary awareness rising, and how residents should manage their waste.
