His Excellency President Dr Julius Maada Bio will be a Special Guest of the United Nations Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, at their Food Systems Stocktaking Moment scheduled to hold in Rome, Italy and will also attend the Human Capital Development Summit in Tanzania.

It will be the first such global follow-up to the 2021 Food Systems Summit, which was held during the UN General Assembly in New York on 23 September, to set the stage for global food systems transformation to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.

After the meeting at the premises of the Food and Agriculture Organisation in Rome on 24 July 2023, the President will then proceed to Dar Es Salaam, in the United Republic of Tanzania, for the Africa Human Capital Heads of State Summit to be held on 25 and 26 July 2023, under the theme “Accelerating Africa’s Economic Growth: Boosting Youth Productivity by Improving Learning and Skills”.

The Summit will bring together leaders from across the continent to focus attention and draw tangible financial and policy commitments, prioritizing investing in people as a core driver of productivity, resilience, and growth.

President Bio is expected to join around two thousand participants from over one hundred and sixty countries, including over twenty Heads of States and Governments at the Summit which is expected to commence this morning and ends on 26th July.

The main objective of this high-profile meeting is to provide a conducive platform for nations to assess the progress made on the commitments to action, originally formulated during the first food systems summit held in 2021.

By gathering global leaders, policymakers, and experts in the field, the summit aims to identify successful strategies and initiatives to transform and improve food systems worldwide.

This momentous occasion will be inaugurated during a high-level opening ceremony led by the UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, and the Prime Minister of Italy.

With the participation of President Bio and other prominent world leaders, the FAO Summit in Rome is anticipated to be a pivotal gathering that fosters collaboration and innovative solutions to address the pressing challenges facing global food systems.

As the world faces numerous issues, such as food insecurity and climate change, the collective efforts of these nations will be crucial in building a sustainable and food-secure future for all.
