His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio has commissioned the Kailahun Township Electrification Project and reiterated the commitment of his administration to transforming social and economic lives in Kailahun district through a variety of meaningful and sustainable development programs.
While turning on the switch at the powerhouse after addressing thousands of supporters at the Kailahun Town Field, President Bio said his administration was correcting historical injustices in districts like Kailahun, noting that it was utterly absurd or preposterous to imagine that a district headquarter town like Kailahun would go for over 40 years without electricity.
He praised the Minister of Energy, Alhaji Kanja Sesay, for efficiently and impressively superintending over the Government’s overall policy objective in the energy sector, adding that the township electrification project and the mini grid facilities and solar lights that were conspicuous and ubiquitous in the district strike at the very core of the fulfillment of promises he made to the people of Kailahun in 2018.
President Julius Maada Bio said Kailahun was always close to his heart and urged all to sustain the development momentum in the district by helping him out ballot the other parties in the June 24 elections. He appealed to all to remain peaceful and tolerant ahead of the polls.
Minister of Energy, Alhaji Kanja Sesay, couldn’t hide his deepest joy and satisfaction at the completion of the project, describing the electricity as one that Kailahun thoroughly deserved on account of its strategic importance within the socioeconomic matrix of Sierra Leone.
He thanked President Bio for giving the project the all-clear and for his executive support to the Ministry of Energy. He called on the people of Kailahun to overwhelmingly vote President Bio.
Alhaji Kanja Sesay informed the people that critical social and administrative facilities in the township had been connected to the grid which is powered by thermal plants with a combined capacity of 2MW.
He urged residents to go through the procedural niceties in their quest to obtain meters and to connect their houses to the grid. Mr Sesay necessarily implored all to own and protect the facilities.
It could be recalled that the New Direction administration, with funds exclusively provided by the Government of Serra Leone, had identified the township of Kailahun as one of those districts headquarter towns that would benefit from the Seven Districts Electrification Project.
