Sierra Leone’s President, Dr. Julius Maada Bio has consented to serve as Keynote Speaker at the African Women Leadership Conference (AWLC) set to be held in Freetown on 20th and 21st April 2026 at the Miata Civic Center.
President Bio’s participation underscores his government’s strong commitment to gender equality, women’s empowerment, and inclusive leadership.
Sierra Leone is set to host an extraordinary gathering of influential women leaders from across the continent.The high-level event will bring together former Heads of State, senior government officials, policymakers, and change-makers committed to advancing women’s leadership and development in Africa.
Among the distinguished personalities expected to arrive in Sierra Leone are Her Excellency, Catherine Samba-Panza, former President of the Central African Republic; Her Jewel Howard Taylor former Vice President of Liberia; and Her Excellency Fatoumata Tambajan former Vice President of Gambia, all of whom are scheduled to participate in this landmark conference.
The African Women Leadership Conference is designed to serve as a platform for dialogue, collaboration, and strategic action, bringing together women leaders from diverse sectors to share experiences, foster partnerships, and inspire the next generation of African women leaders.

For Catherine Samba-Panza, who made history as the first female President of her country and led it through a critical transitional period, her presence symbolizes resilience and peacebuilding leadership. Similarly, Vice President Jewel Taylor continues to be a prominent voice for women in leadership and governance across West Africa.
The event will culminate in the prestigious 50 Most Influential African Women Awards, celebrating outstanding women who have made significant contributions to leadership, innovation, and societal transformation.
As Sierra Leone prepares to welcome these eminent leaders, the Conference is expected to further position the country as a hub for dialogue on women’s leadership and empowerment in Africa, while inspiring a renewed commitment to inclusive growth and sustainable development across the continent.
